Functions of Commercial Wing
Trade & Investment
For Bangladesh, Japan is one of largest export destination in the world and the 2nd in Asia. Two-way trade between Bangladesh and Japan stands nearly USD 3.5 billion. Exports from Bangladesh mainly include woven garments, knit goods and leather whereas imports to Bangladesh includes iron and steel, ships, vehicles, nuclear reactors, machinery, and mechanical appliances.
The number of Japanese companies that have invested in Bangladesh has risen to nearly 330, increasing from 183 in 2014. The Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Bangladesh and Japan was signed on 6 February 2026 in Tokyo after a serious of successful rounds of negotiation. The conclusion of EPA would reduce trade barriers between two countries and encourage more bilateral trade and investment.
Bangladesh has been actively participating in the trade fairs in Japan including Fashion World Tokyo, Japan IT Week Spring, in Tokyo and Tourism Expo Japan, etc. For branding Bangladesh in Japan, Embassy regularly organizes business promotion events such as seminars/workshops/B2B matchmaking in collaboration with relevant Japanese entities/organizations.
Tourism
Beautiful Bangladesh has been the common phrase to promote the attractions of tourism in Bangladesh. There are various dimensions of tourism in the country including the UNESCO World Heritage sites, Historic Mosque City of Bagerhat, Ruins of the Buddhist Vihara at Paharpur and The Sundarbans (for the mangrove forest). The country also has the longest unbroken sea-beach in the world, which stretches for about 130 km.
Activities of Commercial Wing
During 2024-25, the commercial wing had nearly 100 business meetings with Japanese companies/entities and top-level Executives of Japanese Companies/entities also paid courtesy visit to the Embassy and held meeting with the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Japan. In addition, the Commercial Wing facilitated Bangladesh’s participation in the following fairs;
